In the digital yuan wallet app, a traditional Chinese method of giving money as a gift that has become virtual due to the rise of digital payments has been implemented. To attract new users, China's wallet app for its digital yuan central bank digital currency (CBDC) introduced the ability for users to send money in an electronic version of traditional "red packets." As reported by the South China Morning Post on December 26th, the new feature was released over the weekend, roughly one month before the Chinese New Year on January 22nd.
