Compliance with federal sanctions has a negative impact on the global reach of most crypto ecosystems. When it comes to Ethereum, however, investors wield considerable influence over the degree of compliance the ecosystem observes.
Nearly sixty percent of all post-Merge Ethereum blocks comply with the sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States (OFAC). While the crypto community opposes this transformation, many fail to recognize their role in assisting Ethereum to achieve full OFAC compliance.
The use of censoring Miner extractable value (MEV) relays by crypto ecosystems and exchanges is one of the largest factors undermining Ethereum's neutrality credibility. MEV relays act as a go-between between block producers and block builders, and are utilized by prominent crypto players such as Binance, Celsius Network, Coinbase, Kraken, and Cream Finance, among others. Users who stake Etheron platforms (as depicted above) and run censoring MEV relays on their validators contribute directly to the censorship of Ethereum. By adopting a non-censoring MEV-boost relay, crypto platforms can help to rectify the situation.
Popular MEV-boost relays that do not promote censorship for validators and relay operators include Ultra Sound Money, Agnostic Boost, Aestus, BloXroute Max Profit, BloxRoute Ethical, Manifold, and Relayooor.
As investors, it is crucial to recognize that protocol-level censorship is a deterrent to the crypto industry's goal of enabling open and inclusive finance. Therefore, investors and service providers must opt for MEV-boost relays that do not censor data. After four years of inactivity, two Ethereum addresses recently reactivated and transferred 22,982 ETH.
The in question ETH transfers can be traced back to Genesis and Poloniex, where the unknown whales transferred 13,103.99 ETH and 9,878 ETH, respectively.
